Chinese Crested Dog Club held an Open show where BIS was Ch Debrita Don’t Stop Me Now; RBIS, Estillinis The Huntsman at Casacavallo; & BP, Doucai’s Too Cute To Scare at Annamac.

I was truly delighted when I heard I had won the ballot to judge this breed club show & had been looking forward to it for ages! Having not judged the breed in England for nearly 2 years almost all the dogs were new to me. I found temperaments overall to be lovely, movement was generally sound but not always with the reach & drive I like to see, although given the size of the ring perhaps this was not representative of how they would move given more room to stride out. Overall I found a better depth of quality within the bitch entry however the stand out exhibits of the day were generally from the dog classes. I was delighted with both my dog & bitch line-up & really happy with my final winners who I thought made a lovely group circling the ring at the end. Many thanks again to the committee for the kind invitation & wonderful hospitality on the day, my quite fabulous gift, all the exhibitors who entered & made the day so enjoyable & of course to Bruce Jackson for his stewarding expertise throughout the day!

MPD (2,1a) 1 Birkin’s Jean Dark Man In The Mirror, 6 months h/l who was a nice size & shape with good bone. He has a masculine head with alert expression, nice eyes & large ears. Lovely reach of neck, super topline & correctly carried tail. Was distracted at times but when he concentrated fully he moved very well. PD (3) 1 Moyes & Hunter’s Bryelis Privates On Parade, very eyecatching 11 months h/l in the most beautiful condition, well muscled & with super skin. Soundly made with great reach of neck, broad chest & well laid shoulders with legs set well under, long body, perfect topline & correctly angulated rear. Correctly shaped masculine head with dark eyes set well apart, good mouth & well tapered muzzle, large ears & long crest. He simply floated around the ring with such an elegant gait really reaching out in front & driving from behind. BPD, RBP; 2 Knowles’ Parianosez Innuendo at Jhanchi, another quality puppy very similar size & shape to 1 with a lovely head, dark expressive eyes, low set ears which are large & were used well. Maturing well for his 9 months with good depth of chest, level topline, long slender legs & good sweep of stifle. Moved well in all directions & had a great attitude; 3 Hampson’s Khanor Raizen The Roof. JD (3,1) 1 Crow’s Estillinis The Huntsman at Casacavallo, just days out of puppy this h/l is such an accomplished showman already & just never stands wrong. Really loved his size, overall balance & happy outlook. He has a handsome, correctly set out head with dark eyes, neatly finished muzzle & large erect ears. Soundly made from head to toe with good reach of neck, perfect topline, correct depth of chest, tight elbows, slight tuck up & well muscled, correctly angulated rear. As I’ve come to expect from this exhibitor his condition was exemplary with beautiful smooth skin, well muscled all through & furnishings well groomed. He moved around the ring with confidence & bags of attitude holding his graceful outline firm at all times, accurate in all directions. An incredibly promising young dog who could not be ignored. Delighted to award him RBD, RBIS; 2 Routledge’s The Celestial Sayd Gref in Pufflepaws, 15 months b/w p/p groomed to perfection & handled well. Masculine head with nice eyes & correctly set ears. Level topline with good depth of chest & spring of rib, would like a little more neck. Very nice temperament, moved out soundly. YD (4) 1 Crow’s Twice As Nice Seven Monkey Fury, easy winner here having the best shape & movement in the class. Attractive, masculine head of a good shape with dark eyes, flat cheeks into a well tapered muzzle, good mouth & tight lips. Adequate neck into a firm topline with tailset & carried perfectly. Legs are long & slender, front straight & set well under his correctly developed body, rear set well apart with hocks well let down, lovely sweep of stifle & well rounded rear. His outline is well balanced & he maintained his lovely shape perfectly on the move striding out accurately with plenty of confidence; 2 Higgs’ Touch Beauty Pride Of The Motherland, 18 months h/l of a nice size & type with straight front, good depth of chest & nicely angulated rear, level topline when stood but lost it on the move. Smooth, correctly shaped head with eyes spaced apart & muzzle well tapered. Moved soundly; 3 The Celestial Sayd Gref in P. ND (3) 1 B Privates On Parade; 2 P Innuendo at J; 3 K Raizen The Roof. GD (3) 1 Higgs’ Xfactor Dom Risorto, h/l nearing 2 years who won this class on his sound movement & more confident performance. Still has some maturing to do but has a typical outline, good neck, perfect topline & deep chest. Masculine head just showing a little white of eye, strong jaw, large erect ears & long crest. Moved out accurately with decent reach & drive holding his outline firm; 2 Crow’s Keep In Touch Of Angel’s Legacy at Casacavallo, smaller h/l who was a little apprehensive which affected his performance. Good head shape, correct length of muzzle, low set large ears & flat cheeks. Nice little shape with level topline, deep, broad chest & correctly set tail. Moved soundly but would prefer more reach & drive; 3 K Raizen The Roof. PGD (5) 1 Xfactor Dom R; 2 Oliver’s Ynchreenoo Boayl Fahrane at Sarelidan, 2½ years h/l built on elegant lines. Stands to an advantage & was well handled. Good head & expression with dark eyes & large erect ears. Level topline, good body, depth of chest, strong loin & correctly angulated rear. Moved well when settled but could be more positive in front; 3 Routledge’s Pufflepaws Festive Fester. LD (5) 1 Inwood’s Hazeltweed You’re A Nutter, 3 years h/l who is up to size but was an easy winner. Lovely quality all through & very sound on the move which was no surprise given his sound construction. Adequate reach of neck, level back of good length, moderate tuck-up, long slender legs & good feet. Very graceful head correctly shaped, smooth, chiselled cheeks & well tapered muzzle with dark eyes set well apart & low set large ears used well. Very nice skin & furnishings & in good muscular condition. Just didn’t make as much of himself as he could have done; 2 Touch Of Beauty Pride Of The Motherland; 3 P Festive Fester. OD (6) 1 Dixon’s Ch Debrita Don’t Stop Me Now, this 18 months h/l ticked all the boxes for me & performed perfectly throughout the day to really show off his many superb attributes. Standing he presents a graceful, perfectly balanced outline with his fabulous condition plain to see. His head is set out perfectly with correct skull shape, length of muzzle, beautiful dark eyes, lean cheeks, neatly finished lips & strong jaw. Totally attentive to his handler at all times with his large erect ears used perfectly to enhance his alert expression. So lovely to go over with every part flowing smoothly into the next, long neck, good angulation, level topline, deep chest, correct tailset & super rear construction. It was no surprise to see him move effortlessly around the ring with plenty of reach & drive, accurate coming & going & maintaining a beautiful outline at all times. To top it off his look at me attitude in the ring just enhanced an already wonderful picture. I couldn’t take my eyes off him & had no hesitation in awarding him BD & later BIS; 2 Crow’s Let Me Be The One Of Angel’s Legacy at Casacavallo, another h/l dog of obvious quality, a fraction smaller than 1 & again with a nice balance to his outline. Stronger in head but has nice dark eyes & correctly set ears. Soundly constructed throughout & consequently moved out effortlessly driving well from behind & with good reach in front. Gleaming with health & condition & as always handled to an advantage; 3 McGuigan & Blackwell’s Habiba Oliver With A Twist at Annamac. VD (5,1) 1 Dowsett’s Ch Doonbeg Bete Noir via Tteswood, classy 7 years p/p in perfectly presented veil coat. So elegant & graceful with ample reach of neck, long level back, good depth of chest, slight tuck up, lovely rear angulation with hocks well let down. Smooth, masculine head with strong jaw, dark eyes & good ears. Moved accurately with his head held proudly & tail correctly maintaining a level topline at all times. Wouldn’t want him any bigger but presents a beautiful, nicely balanced picture when stood & certainly doesn’t look like a veteran. Was a close challenge for BV as both winners were top quality but ultimately I felt this young man had the edge on the day. BV; 2 Crow’s Liebewach Rufus Ruffcut, 7 years true h/l who is a nice type & again in fabulous condition for his age with correct furnishings, supple body & smooth skin. Nice head properties with correctly shaped dark eyes, erect ears & alert expression. Super neck & shoulders, deep chest, firm topline, strong loin & correctly angulated rear. Moving out with confidence, flowing effortlessly around the ring. Unlucky to meet 1; 3 Hampson’s Zerachiel Ready To Rumble.

MPB (4,2) 1 McGuigan & Blackwell’s Doucai’s Too Cute To Scare at Annamac, this feminine little h/l pocket rocket was just irresistible! Only 6 months but brimming with confidence & full of potential. Pretty head with the darkest of eyes, good ears, well tapered muzzle, tight lips & the start of a lovely crest. Small & so well made with good reach of neck, lovely lay of shoulder, perfect topline & length of body, strongly constructed rear & wonderful tailset & carriage. She was superb on the move for one so young, covering the ground with ease, happy & attentive & holding her head proudly as she flowed around the ring. Obviously still very much a baby & has a long way to go but even with a change of handler in the challenge she simply out moved most of the competition & just kept catching my eye. Will watch her progress with interest as I’m sure she’ll have a good career ahead of her. RBB, BPB, BP; 2 Hampson’s Zerachiel Talk Of The Town, sweet baby of 7 months, similar in size & shape to 1 with pretty head, nice eyes ears set & carried well. Good reach of neck, body & leg length, rear angulation & tailset. Moved well for a baby but couldn’t match the performance of 1. PB (3) 1 Moyes & Hunter’s Bryelis Private Dancer, very eyecatching p/p, 11 months with a superb showy attitude. Pretty head & super expression framed by large fringed ears, strong jaw with tight lips, correct length of muzzle, pronounced stop & well spaced dark eyes. Lovely reach of neck & super shoulders, perfect topline, super tailset & carriage, lovely rear angulation & altogether presents a really elegant picture although I would have liked just a fraction more leg. Moved so gracefully maintaining her outline perfectly, good coming & going & with a lovely happy temperament. Really lovely puppy who was handled to perfection; 2 Hampson’s Zerachiel Ceasarina, 7 months true h/l who looked every bit the baby in this class. Liked her neat little shape, good angulation fore & aft, body developing as you’d expect at this age, level topine & good tailset & carriage. Feminine head with correctly shaped dark eyes, strong jaw & alert expression. When she settled she moved well maintaining a good outline; 3 Birkin’s Landkris Felicita. JB (3,1) 1 Grange’s Harriet Take Me Away to Kojiki, this little h/l appealed to me instantly. Only 15 months but maturing nicely & showing her heart out, standing to an advantage every time I looked at her. Loved her small size with correct length of leg & back to give a typical, well balanced outline. Pretty, feminine head, smooth & of good proportions with dark eyes, strong jaw, tight lips & nicely tapered muzzle. She has good furnishings, supple body, lovely smooth skin & has great muscletone. Moved really well with good reach & drive, proud head carriage & correctly carried tail. From a lovely line-up of bitches she kept catching my eye & deservedly took the top spot. She seemed to tire a little when she came back for the final challenge so had to give way to the boys. BB, BOS; 2 Routledge’s Pufflepaws Demonia Lilith, another nice exhibit, this one a 14 months p/p in gorgeous condition & moving out very soundly, covering the ground effortlessly. Nice head qualities with the darkest of eyes, strong jaw, correct length of muzzle which is well tapered & finished neatly. Soundly constructed with good front & rear angulation, deep chest, slight tuck-up, nicely rounded rear & hocks well let down. Unlucky to meet 1 here but deservedly won a later class. YB (2) 1 Birkin’s Xantana Dom Risorto, 22 months h/l, heavier type with broad chest, long level back & good rear. Her head is correctly set out with pronounced stop, erect ears & well placed dark eyes which were a little larger than I’d like. Moved out well maintaining a firm outline, sound in all directions & handled well; 2 Proctor & McGowan’s Lospoochinos Lunar Eclipse over Tramarllan, 18 months h/l who was rather nervous. Nice enough head with alert expression, low set large erect ears & correctly shaped dark eyes. Good chest & ribbing, ample neck & long slender legs. Moved well enough but would have liked a better topline & tail carriage. NB (5) 1 B Private Dancer; 2 Xantana Dom R; 3 Z Ceasarina. GB (6,1) 1 Harriet Take Me Away to K; 2 Lane’s Konishiki Tiger Lily, close up to 1, a very flashy h/l in the most fabulous condition. A little larger all through & not quite the action of 1 on the move but nevertheless a quality exhibit with plenty to like. Very nice to go over with each part flowing smoothly into the next, good front & rear angulation, deep chest with tight elbows, nicely sprung ribcage, strong loin, good length of leg & back to give a pleasing, well balanced outline. Lovely head & expression, smooth with flat cheeks, lean muzzle, strong jaw & tight lips. Moved happily with a sound & effortless gait, such a lovely attitude in the ring; 3 Z Ceasarina. PGB (2) 1 P Demonia Lilith; 2 Higgs’ Eminence Little Looker, VHC in Grad & did move better in this class but would like more confidence. In lovely condition with smooth skin & good furnishings, dark eyes & erect ears. Didn’t quite have the balance in profile I was looking for. LB (7,4) 1 Lane’s Annie Garden Roses at Konishiki, another beautifully presented & handled h/l of obvious quality from this kennel. Lovely balanced outline with fabulous reach of neck, straight front, deep chest, long level back, supple body, high set tail & good rear assembly. Attractive head with beautiful dark almond shaped eyes & large ears used well to accentuate her typical expression. Moved well holding her elegant outline firm striding out with good reach in front, I think she’d look even better with a bigger space to really get into her stride; 2 Knowles’ Jhanchi Let Me Entertain You, nice quality h/l slightly smaller all through than 1 but carrying just a little too much condition! Really like her size & shape, good depth of chest & spring of rib, strong loin, rounded rear with tailset high & carried correctly. Pretty, feminine head with expressive eyes, neatly finished muzzle of the correct length, flat cheeks & large low set ears. Lovely fine grained skin in super condition with good furnishings. Moved soundly with an easy gait; 3 McGuigan & Blackwell’s Annamac Love Florence. OB (1) 1 Dowsett’s Doonbeg Reach For The Sky Tteswood, top quality p/p who stood alone but more than deserved her place here. As always from this exhibitor presentation was first class with coat & body condition at its peak. Lovely balance of leg to body length (I find many p/p’s are shorter on leg), with beautiful arched neck, good angulation fore & aft, level topline, deep chest, tight elbows, moderate tuck-up & well rounded rear with hocks well let down. Feminine head with dark correctly shaped eyes, low set large erect ears, strong jaw with muzzle well tapered & neatly finished. Moved well in the class but unfortunately came back to the challenge & had been upset by something so just didn’t make the most of herself (much to my disappointment) & threw away the chance of higher honours. VB (4,1) 1 McGuigan & Blackwell’s Annamac Fairy Tail, quality 8 years h/l who is a real class act. Gleaming with health & hiding her years remarkably well, racier type with lovely skin & long flowing crest. Lovely construction throughout with long neck leading to well laid shoulders, long slender legs set well under her body, correct depth of chest, good topline, strong loin, nice sweep of stifle with good width between hind legs. Feminine, graceful head with dark eyes correctly shaped & well spaced, flat cheeks & well tapered muzzle of the correct length. Moved with style, accurate & confident, covering the ground with ease. As tall as I would want but so well balanced all through. Was a very close decision for BV & she was beaten by a whisker so had to settle for RBV; 2 Kirk’s Brisville Wild And Wicked, 10 years h/l looking good for her age & enjoying her time in the ring. A little strong in head but with dark expressive eyes & large erect ears. Well laid shoulders, broad chest & super topline both standing & on the move. Moved freely; 3 Hampson’s Zerachiel Disco Diva.
