Chinese Crested Dog Club, 4th August 2019

There is no better compliment to a breeder / exhibitor / judge to be asked to judge a specialty of your own breed. My thanks to the Chinese Crested Dog Club members and committee for this prestigious honor of being asked to judge your 50th anniversary show. What fun to travel to the UK from the USA for this incredible honor. I have been involved in the Chinese Crested breed since May of 1986 and have watched the breed evolve, grow and change over the years. I was quite pleased with the lovely large entry and the overall quality of my winners in each class. Bites as a whole are quite good in both hairless and powder puff. Skin condition in the hairless is also very good overall being smooth and healthy. Size of some of the dogs is of concern to me as some are quite large and carry too much bone as well as height. Coming from my origins of sight hounds I tend to focus quite a bit on movement and the overall package as I'm sure you will see in my critique. Thank you to my two ring stewards who kept me organized, I could not of done it without you. And to the committee members for showing me so much of your lovely country and your hospitality. The show grounds were very nice, the ring size perfect and the exhibitors friendly and welcoming. I will surely never forget this fabulous judging experience and thank everyone for their kindness and good sportsmanship.

1st HAMPSON, Zerachiel Ti Wei Te

A balanced spotted HL puppy slightly longer than tall. He carries a level top line and has good rear angles but is slightly straighter in the front giving him a bit too much front action. Weak ears not yet erect. He has plenty of attitude. I liked his size being fine boned and on the smaller side in bone and height.

A lovely HL boy who carries his top line level on the move. A pretty yet handsome head piece. He is clean coming and going showing reach and drive on the go around. Currently with a weak ear but with proper care I am sure it will go erect as the base of the ear is set properly. Very elegant balanced head piece. Promising future for this young dog.

2nd HAMPSON, Zerachiel Mr Majestic - my RESERVE BEST PUPPY

A very elegant puff boy. He is balanced being longer than tall. A pretty yet handsome balanced head piece with a lovely expression, jet black pigment on this lighter colored dog which is nice to see. Beautiful muzzle fill and an almond shaped eye. He carries drop ears. Topline is off a bit as he is in a growing stage with his rear slightly higher. I am sure he will develop into a lovely dog.

Attractive black and white HL boy. He moved with a level top line and displayed good reach and drive and was clean on the down and back. He carries a balanced head with a good ear set. He has good fill of chest and his brisket to his elbows.

2nd BODEN, Inui Take Me Away (imp POL)

HL boy with a good ear set and a balanced head. He carries a long neck sloping gracefully into shoulder. He has a nicely angled rear with stifles firm and long, sweeping smoothly into hocks. He has good layback of shoulder however I'd like to see a better return of upper arm as he tends to move from the elbow vs. the shoulder. A promising young dog of just over a year of age.

Lovely HL boy. Presented beautifully, well trained, great ring attitude, groomed to perfection. Level topline which he held when moving, reach and drive, he moves clean on the down and back. Clean shoulders, well laid back with good return of upper arm. Good ear set, balanced head piece and nice dark almond eye. He has a proper tail set, very nice substance, and possesses good muscle tone. Perfect balance at just slightly longer than tall. Floated around the ring. A very showy dog, he came to win!!

2nd HIGGS, Touch Beauty Fire Power

Very nice HL boy who carries a pretty head piece. He has a level top line with a proper tail set. He is a very elegant dog. Front not quite as good as my winner in this class, moving a touch wide. Deep chest. Clean underline. A very nice dog in a class of good competition.

He displays beautiful reach and drive and clean on the down and back. He has a good ear set with a lovely balanced head piece. He is quite flashy like his brother. Well groomed, trained and shown to perfection.

2nd PIPER, Eternal Life Heybett Zanjero JW (imp SKJ)

HL - Beautiful head piece, large and erect ear with proper set. High tail set. Displayed reach and drive. Could tend to move a touch wide in his front when coming at you. Dead level topline. Quite muscular with good conditioning.

Heavier boned HL boy. A bit too much back skull for me but couldn't ignore his sound movement with clean lines coming and going and reach and drive. Carries his top line level on the move. Nice medium size dark eye with dark pigment.

A more moderate sized puff boy which was pleasant to see as many of the boys are near the top of the height standard or are over. He carried a level top line which he held when moving. A puff, with a balanced chiseled head piece, long neck flowing into clean shoulders. He displayed good reach and drive with proper proportions and a good tail set. He easily won this very competitive class.

2nd CROW, Estillinis Silver Surfer at Casacavallo JW (Imp SWE)

A solidly built slightly heavier boned HL boy. He has balanced proportions and displays good reach and drive on the move while carrying a level top line. Good length of neck flowing into clean shoulders. Very muscular and in good condition. Very deserving in this competitive class.

Beautifully groomed and presented erect ear puff boy. Lovely dark almond eye, jet black pigment, excellent dentition. Sound on the move carrying a level top line although when overly excited he can tend to ruin his top line however this handler quickly gets him back to attention. His proportions are balanced being slightly longer than tall, he is a very handsome dog that draws your eye to him immediately. On the move he simply floats showing sound reach and drive. He was a strong contender for the CC award and very deserving of this reserve CC.

2nd CROW, Estillinis The Huntsman at Casacavallo JW ShCM (Imp SWE)

This HL boy carries a level top line with a good tail set. Good proportions with equal angulations front and rear giving him nice reach and drive and clean coming and going. Muscular in great show condition. Handsome balanced head piece, correct ear set, nice dark pigment and medium sized almond eye. Well deserved win in this large competitive class.

HL male. Balanced head piece with a dark almond shaped eye. He wears heavy ear fringe that I believe ruins the overall look as it pulls his ears to the side at an improper angle however his ear set is correct and the shape and size of the ear also correct. Beautifully balanced with good substance and muscle condition. Clean underline with deep brisket and nice tuck up. He displays reach and drive on the move and clean coming and going.

2nd KRACIKOVA, Tomio Z Kamilova Dvora (ATC No. AV00952CZE)

Very flashy showy HL boy. He carries a level top line on the move and displays good reach and drive. His angulation is balanced front and rear and he displays good muscle tone and conditioning. He has a lovely length of neck flowing smooth into his shoulders. A contender for this competitive class. I'd like to see a bit more finish to his muzzle as it is slightly finishing to a point. Head is balanced with a dark almond shaped eye and dark pigment.

A spotted Hl boy. A nice size being not quite so large as some exhibits. He carries balanced proportions being slightly longer than tall and carries a level top line, He has a nice long neck running smoothly into his shoulders. Balanced head piece, good ear set and nice dark pigment. He easily won this large class.

2nd HAMPSON , Zerachiel Ready To Rumble ShCM

Drop ear black and white puff. He is lovely moving, held his top line level on the move and displayed good reach and drive. If I could change anything I'd give him a bit more length of leg. A strong placement in a large class.

Beautifully groomed and presented black, silver and white puff boy with erect ears. This eleven year old just flew around the ring like he owned it. He was very showy, carried his top line level and has balanced angles front and rear showing good reach and drive. Lovely head piece balanced with an almond eye and jet black pigment and correct ear set. Fore chest was very nice, deep brisket and tight elbows. Lovely length of neck flowing smoothly into his shoulders and proper tail set.

2nd CROW, Konishiki All That Jazz

Smaller HL male of a pleasing size. This ten year old boy was the happiest man at the show - clearly he loved every minute of being in the ring. An attitude of ten years going on ten months! A joy to watch him show he was having such a grand time of it. Nicely balanced head piece, carries a good length of neck for his proportions. Level top line and balanced angles front and rear. Nice condition with chest to elbows and good underline.

DALROSMIC’S PERSEPTOLIS: hairless female, very good size, and proportions. I would prefer better head, correct bite, dark eyes, well set ears. I like her correct top line. Bottom line should be better. Correct skin and coat markings. Should be better presented in the ring. Needs more training.

EPIPHANY FOXY LADY: hairless female, a little low on legs. Correct head and bite, lovely eyes, good top line, I would prefere better coat texture, too big crest and too much body hair. I would prefere better movement.

MISSANDEI SURRI QUEEN MALVERNE: very nice puff female with very beautiful head. Excellent neck and top line. Beautiful coat in excellent show condition. Move well but I would like better show attitude in the ring.
